Registering a company

What’s the process for registering a Sole Trader?

Once you have completed our online form, we will submit your application within 1 working day. HMRC will then review your application and issue your Unique Tax Reference number (UTR).

UTRs are confidential numbers, which automatically drop into your Government gateway account and sent in the post by HMRC. HMRC can take up to 6 weeks to send the URT, however you can start trading before receiving your UTR as long as you register within 3 months of trading.

During the registration process we will just ask for your name and trading name, contact details and payment. We will then ask you to complete a questionnaire where we will ask you the following questions:

  • Your full name
  • Your current address
  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Your date of birth
  • Your phone number
  • Your email address
  • The date that your self-employment began
  • The type of business you’re starting
  • The address of your business
  • The phone number for your business
