What is a Companies House personal code and do I need one?

A Companies House personal code is an 11-character code that is unique to you personally (not your company). From 18 November 2025, you must have this code to file your company’s confirmation statement or to be newly appointed as a director or PSC.

Why has this been introduced?

The UK government has introduced this requirement to improve transparency and security across all UK companies. The code is linked to your verified identity and connects to every company directorship or PSC role you hold.

How do I get my personal code?

You can obtain your personal code by verifying your identity through GOV.UK One Login.

We can obtain your personal code for you for £29.99 per person.

Do I need a separate code for each company?

No. Your personal code is linked to you as an individual and applies to all companies where you are a director or PSC. You only need one code.

I already verified my identity with Companies House – do I have a code?

If you set up a GOV.UK One Login account and verified your identity with Companies House, you should already have your code. Sign in to your Companies House account and check under ‘Manage account’.
