What is a business address?
As a sole trader you are legally required to clearly display your name and address when you deal with customers and suppliers. Your address must appear on all documents such as business letters, orders, payments and invoices. It must also be clearly visible on your website.

An office address is also used instead of a residential address to create a professional perception of your business to the public.

It’s also an address you can display on your website. All the mail related to your business can be forwarded to your residential address.
Requirements
The only legal requirements of your business address is that it must be a physical location and be in the country where you operate:
- If you have an e-commerce website then you must display the correspondence address
- Your business mail is opened, scanned and emailed to you as standard. If you would prefer your post sent on physically, you can add Royal Mail forwarding as an upgrade.
All business mail received will be opened, scanned and forwarded by email or sent, unopened, via Royal Mail. We will do our best to filter out any mail considered as "junk mail".

Important notes
- This service is available to all sole traders. Please note our office address is located in Bristol, England.
- Duport provides a Business address service to clients at its discretion. To legally provide this service in accordance with UK money laundering regulations we will conduct an electronic ID check using the information you have provided.Occasionally the electronic ID check does not pass so our team will ask for further information and/or ID evidence.
- Personal mail, including letters from banks and HMRC are not included in the service as your residential address should be provided to these organisations. Exceptional mail items, courier deliveries or parcels delivered to our address will be refused and returned to source.
- Duport Associates Limited discharges its responsibility when documents are handed over to the public mail service, addressed to the last postal address provided to us.
- A renewal invoice is issued each year several weeks prior to the renewal date.

No. Registered offices are only for limited companies. This is the sole trader equivalent, built for privacy.

You can, but you may not need to. HMRC never publishes your address, so your home address stays private either way. Where it earns its keep is the post itself: if you house share and would rather official mail is not sent home, or you expect to move, giving HMRC this address means your official post always reaches you at one stable address.

Post is scanned and emailed to you as part of the package. Your post can be sent via Royal Mail for an additional fee.
