Nadine’s Journey with Roibelle’s Luxurious Treats

Roibelle’s Luxurious Treats

At Duport, we’re always inspired by stories of resilience, ambition, and the incredible drive behind new UK businesses. One such story is that of Nadine – a single mum from Filton, Bristol, whose love for baking turned into a thriving venture, Roibelle’s Luxurious Treats.

Before the pandemic, Nadine’s days were filled with the joy of childminding – a career she loved and built with care. But when COVID restrictions came into force, she was forced to close her doors and rethink her future. With time on her hands and a habit of making waffles for family and neighbours, Nadine leaned into her love for baking.

What started as a hobby quickly became a lifeline. She began giving out tasters of her now-famous waffles and cookies to neighbours. The response? Overwhelmingly positive. Encouraged by glowing reviews and a strong sense of purpose, Nadine realised she could turn this into something more – a business of her own.

With the support of a mentor through Standard Guide, Nadine launched Roibelle’s Luxurious Treats. Her very first event was a local dog show – and she sold out of waffles in just two hours. That momentum carried her to her next event: supplying cookies for a Snap Fitness gym event in Filton.

From there, the opportunities kept growing. Nadine’s treats made it to the Patchway Police Station and Southmead Hospital as part of her charity work during Christmas and Easter. Her passion for giving back is just as strong as her entrepreneurial spirit.

Like many startups, Nadine faced hurdles when seeking funding. Although Bristol City Council were offering grants, her Filton address meant she was just outside the eligibility zone. And despite her efforts to explore the government’s loan schemes, her self-employed background in childcare made her ineligible.

That’s when Black South West Network (BSWN) pointed her towards a NatWest funding seminar – and that connection proved to be a turning point. At the seminar, Nadine met Mike from Purple Shoots, a social enterprise supporting small businesses. Mike believed in her vision and helped her secure a £5,000 loan.

This crucial funding allowed Nadine to carry out essential electrical work and plastering for her new venue – a space that will soon be ready to welcome customers.

Today, Roibelle’s Luxurious Treats offers luxury cookies through Deliveroo, boasting a 4.9-star rating, and a perfect 5-star rating on Google. Nadine has baked for church events (500 cookies, no less!) and is even booked for a wedding in July. She’s also earned a 5-star food hygiene rating – a testament to her professionalism and commitment to quality.

And the journey doesn’t stop there.

Nadine is now preparing to open her very own shop at 555 Filton Avenue, where she’ll serve up her beloved waffles and cookies alongside coffee and gelato. Her story is a powerful reminder that when one door closes, another can open – especially when you have the courage to walk through it.
