Vast amounts of grant money go unclaimed each year simply because searching for a business grant is confusing, frustrating and time consuming. A recent Duport survey found the majority of respondents would like us to provide information on grants and in response we have organised a free package of relevant information to make the process as simple as possible.
Check out the nationwide grants section for small businesses and also look at the regional sections for specific local grants. This covers England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scotland will follow). If you are in Northern Ireland or Wales you should also cross reference this information with the additional Northern Ireland and Wales sections. Some sections of the United Kingdom are more generous than others when it comes to dishing out dollops of cash. The south east is particularly stingy, while the south west and Yorkshire and Humberside have much more to offer small businesses. Many of the grants in Northern Ireland are based around agriculture, and Wales has a particularly unique section of grants.
You might want to check under English regions for tourism grants in the West Midlands, or security grants in the North West, building improvement grants in Yorkshire or environmental grants in Cornwall. There are grants for training, research and development the arts and media, for marketing, conservation, computers and much more. Grants vary from a few hundred pounds to just under a million. Some are for start-ups, others for established businesses. There are health and safety grants and green grants also. The list is long and the range wide. New grants pop up regularly so check the new grants section also.
If you find a grant you wish to apply for you need to know how to put an application together along with tips for increasing your chances of success. Be realistic over your applications, but do not be deterred! Duport will answer those difficult grant questions. For instance, what is the difference between a grant an award and a loan? Who are the main funders and who gives the most money and where can you get extra help?
