We recommend <strong>smartphone<\/strong>, then click <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 14:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Select which type of <strong>smartphone<\/strong> you\u2019re using (iPhone or Android), then <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 15:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When asked if you have a <strong>valid passport<\/strong>, select <strong>\u201cYes,\u201d<\/strong> then <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 16:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Confirm your passport has the <strong>biometric symbol<\/strong> (the small rectangle with a circle) on the front cover, then <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 17:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Click <strong>Continue<\/strong> to use your passport and the <strong>GOV.UK ID Check app<\/strong> for verification.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 18:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Keep this web page <strong>open or bookmarked<\/strong>, as you\u2019ll need it later. Then click <strong>\u201cDownload GOV.UK ID Check app.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 19:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once the app is downloaded, return to the web page and click <strong>\u201cLink GOV.UK ID Check.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 20:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Open the app \u2014 it should display a \u201cLink Successful\u201d message. Click <strong>Continue<\/strong> to scan your <strong>passport\u2019s photo page.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 21:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once the passport scan is complete, click <strong>Continue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 22:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next, follow the on-screen prompts to <strong>scan the biometric chip<\/strong> in your passport\u2019s cover.
