young directors and female directors on the rise in Twickenham

September 2012

The first half of 2012 has seen a rise in the number of both female directors and directors under the age of 25 in Twickenham, according to data in the Duport Business Confidence Report for the area.

During the six months between January and June, the appointment of female directors stood at 27%, compared with 25% during the same period in 2011. These figures go against the trend in the UK as a whole, where numbers of female director appointments fell to 23% in the first half of this year.

The number of young directors also rose from 2.3% in the first half of 2011 to 3.3% in the first half of 2012. These figures mirror the UK as a whole, where numbers of young directors have been rising steadily since 2003.

Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:

"The rise in numbers of female directors and young directors should inject a fresh approach into the business community of Twickenham.

"The recession has hit women particularly hard and has also meant fewer jobs for young people, especially graduates. It is heartening to see so many people are taking the initiative and becoming directors of their own companies."

A rise in female directors and young directors should bring new ideas and innovation to Twickenham, helping strengthen the economy of the area for future generations.
