While economists talked fearfully of a triple-dip recession in 2012, Coventry was quietly racking up net company growth almost equalling that of booming 2006.
New research from Duport.co.uk reveals that net company growth in Kingston Upon Thames dipped during the first three months of the year.
The beginning of 2013 has seen some positive economic results in Folkestone, with company formation rising and a rise in net company growth.
October 2012
It's been a record-breaking year so far in Harrow. The January to June period saw more new company formations than any other half year on record for the area, and the second quarter also yielded a record-breaking number of new companies.
The local council's "Enterprising Harrow" strategy started in 2007 and is set to run until 2016. The strategy aims to make Harrow more business-friendly and states that Harrow's "future depends on the healthy flow and growth of a relatively large number of new and small businesses."
Initiatives put in place by Harrow Council have helped provide new businesses with the technical support, supply chain development and market information that they need to grow. Action has also been taken to tackle skills shortages and promote local business to local people.
"The record number of companies seen during the first half of the year suggests that the council's plans are working, and new business is flocking to Harrow," said Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis.
"With such positive statistics for the first half of the year, Harrow should see a strong finish to 2012."
