net company growth soars in Taunton

October 2012

There was a dramatic rise in net company growth in Taunton between January and June, according to the latest Duport Business Confidence Report for the area. During this period, the company register increased by 85 - a huge rise compared to the same period in 2011.

Since 2006, Taunton has been undergoing a period of regeneration, with the aim of maintaining its status as a central business hub for the South West. The latest regeneration project will see vacant land next to the railway station turned into a sustainable employment-led mixed-use development. This development is set to attract 3000 new jobs and 500 new homes, providing a significant boost to the economy of the area.

There are also plans to enliven the "Cultural Quarter" and make more areas of the town centre pedestrianised. A new link road to ease town centre congestion was completed in September 2011, and a second link road is planned for completion by the end of next year.

"The high level of net company growth this year is a positive sign for the local economy, and should help strengthen the business base of the town," said Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis.

"Our latest report shows several other promising statistics that suggest Taunton is weathering difficult financial conditions with some success."
