The first six months of the year in Belfast saw a rise of over 2% in the number of female director appointments. During this period, female director appointments stood at 24.3%, just ahead of the UK average of 23.4%.

During the summer, Business Secretary, Vince Cable announced that new official statistics show that the number of women in the boardrooms of the UK's top companies has increased in the past year.

The figures report that the number of women appointed to the boards of the UK's top companies has reached unprecedented levels, with women now making up 16.7% of FTSE 100, and 10.9% of FTSE 250 boards, up from 12.5% and 7.8% respectively in 2010.

Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:

"The rising number of women directors in Belfast is a very positive development for the city. More female directors should bring a fresh outlook to business community, and help diversify the economy of the area."

"Our report shows that, as well as rising numbers of women directors, directors under 25 years old are also increasing, which should also help new ideas flow into the business landscape."
