While economists talked fearfully of a triple-dip recession in 2012, Coventry was quietly racking up net company growth almost equalling that of booming 2006.

Slough has seen an increase in the number of female director appointments during the first six months of the year. The percentage of female director appointments between January and June stood at 22%, compared to 20% during the same period last year. Data in the latest Duport Business Confidence Report for Slough shows changing numbers of female directors since 2003.
In the last two decades the Slough economy has shifted from manufacturing to an information based economy, with several major IT companies now based in the town. Slough is also home to the National Foundation for Educational Research.
Due to its proximity to London and good transport links, a number of large companies have chosen Slough as the location for their headquarters. Resident companies include Nintendo, Amazon.co.uk and Furniture Village, who all bring a significant number of jobs to the area.
The move away from a male-dominated manufacturing industry could be a reason for the rising number of female directors. Another possible cause could be that women are choosing to set up their own businesses in the face of a decreased jobs market.
Managing Director of Duport.co.uk, Peter Valaitis said:
"An increase in the number of female directors should bring a fresh perspective to the business community of Slough. Our report also shows an increase in number of young directors, indicating that entrepreneurial spirit is flourishing in the town."
