RBS and Lloyds Bank Group are setting aside £94 billion for financing businesses, with nearly half going towards SMEs.
Access to finance has been a serious issue for many small companies, who often rely on access to credit to help them deal with cash flow problems.
There will also be options for small businesses which cannot get access to credit, with the creation of an adjudicator to assess whether applications for credit has been unfairly turned down.
"There are still companies who are being unfairly denied credit and feel that they are powerless to challenge the decision. I want to change this position and give them the right to have their credit complaints examined," stated Chancellor Alistair Darling.
