entrepreneurial age

september 2009

Two thirds of people in the UK aspire to be an entrepreneur, rising to three quarters of people between the ages of 25 and 34.

According to a poll from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), nearly a third of respondents felt that the recession provided a good opportunity to start up a business, showing that the downturn has not dampened the UK’s enthusiasm for start-ups and entrepreneurship.

"Running a business is seriously hard work and requires skill, dedication and drive. It is hugely encouraging that so many respondents – especially so many young people – aspire to be their own boss," stated Glenn Collins, head of business advisory services at ACCA.

"This entrepreneurial attitude bodes extremely well for the next generation of business leaders."

96% of respondents also felt that SMEs were vitally important to the community.
