tech SMEs to get £150m investment

The government has announced a £150 million investment in small businesses and start-ups in the technology sector.

The UK Innovation Investment Fund will provide for SMEs that specialise in clean technology, life sciences and advanced manufacturing.

"It will provide crucial support for our most promising start-ups and existing small companies just when they need it most," stated Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

"This fund will help build Britain’s future by investing in key sectors."

The £150 million government fund will be matched by the private sector, and it is hoped that there will be further investment that will boost the fund by £1 billion over the next ten years.
