will SMEs make the most of cyber monday?

december 2009

The first Monday of December has been dubbed “Cyber Monday”, as millions join in the biggest online shopping day of the year.

Research suggests that 70% of people plan to shop online over Christmas, but many small businesses are shutting themselves out of the competition because they don’t have a company website.

80% of SMEs with an online presence make a profit from their site, according to a survey by 1&1 Internet Ltd, and with more customers turning to the internet during the Christmas season it is becoming even more important for retailers to have a website.

However, the research also estimated that fewer than half of the UK’s small businesses have a website, which prevents them from cashing in on opportunities like Cyber Monday.
