| Liberal Democrat party leader Nick Clegg has called for the government to take action to improve lending for small and medium sized businesses.
Many smaller firms are having trouble accessing funds since the credit crunch began, and many banks are still failing to get lending back to the levels of 2007.
"We agree with the Liberal Democrat leader that the banks are hiding away from small businesses and that the Government is not exposing the banks enough and insisting that they lend to small businesses," stated John Wright, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB).
Mr Clegg proposed that local councils and Post Offices could be used to directly provide companies with state funds.
