| Economic growth came to a standstill between April and June this year, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
The halt in growth is likely to encourage calls from business groups in favour of cutting interest rates to stimulate the flagging economy.
The ONS had predicted 0.2% growth during the quarter, which would have been a drastic cut from the 1.4% economic growth in the same period in 2007.
This ends 63 consecutive quarters of economic expansion.
