| Over a third of businesses consider high taxes to be the most significant issue affecting small companies today, according to research by Populus for the British Chamber of Commerce (BCC).
34% of respondents to the survey felt that taxation was their biggest concern, yet 85% believed that politicians did not have a good understanding of business.
“These figures paint a depressing picture on the faith that the business community have in politicians. With many having very little practical experience working in business it is unsurprising that MPs do not come across as sympathetic to the need of business," stated David Frost, Director General of the BCC.
The survey also indicated that there was little expectation of either a Conservative or a Labour government prioritising the needs of small businesses. Merely 14% had confidence in Labour addressing the issues and only 22% had faith in the Conservatives.
