SMEs 'do not have confidence in their websites'

A majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) do not believe that their websites adequately reflect their brand, according to a new study.

Research carried out by content management provider Mediasurface found that 61 per cent of SMEs do not have confidence in their website to represent their company effectively.

Additionally, the figures indicate that less than 40 per cent of organisations update their website weekly, while 11 per cent update on a monthly basis.

Some ten per cent of firms still do not have a website, the survey reveals.

Andy Peart, chief marketing officer at Mediasurface, commented: "There is still a great opportunity to show SMEs the true value of effectively managed web content and to illustrate that [new technology] is all about using the power of the web for business advantage."

Some experts believe that advanced internet technology such as Web 2.0, which includes social networking sites and wikis, could help businesses grow.
