The Welsh department of the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) yesterday released its assembly manifesto, which sets out plans to stimulate growth and support existing firms in the area.
The paper suggested that local authorities should carry out retail impact assessments of large companies before granting them planning permission in order to protect small firm owners.
Additionally, the manifesto called for retail developments to set aside a certain amount of affordable space for independent shops.
It also suggested that low-interest loans would better serve investment in SMEs than the current method of business grants.
Previous to the document's release, Mike Learmond, North Wales FSB regional organiser, told the Liverpool Daily Post: "This manifesto document defines our lobbying activity over the next few years and so is of enormous importance to the FSB and small businesses generally in Wales."
Ahead of the May 3rd elections, North Wales FSB has invited candidates to respond to issues regarding small businesses.
