The British Small Business Champions (BSBC) organisation is inviting entries from UK firms which believe that they are worthy of an "outstanding business" accolade.
Company registration for the business honour will result in one firm winning the British Small Business Champion prize in the spring.
Businesses that make the final shortlist for the award will be notified by March 2007 - there will also be regional and national recognition.
The aim of the award, which was launched in 2003, is to "to celebrate and recognise the achievements and importance of the UK's small business sector".
Fiona Armstrong, who hosted the event in 2005, said of the award: "A true celebration of dynamism in UK small businesses which pays tribute to the vision, leadership and focus of the businesses involved."
Last year's BSBC winner was Wiggly Wigglers, a firm that supplies worms to companies, local authorities and individual customers, as well as home composting kits.
