The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) is urging HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to ensure that adequate resources are in place to cope with the processing of tax returns.
With the deadline for the return of self-assessment forms on January 31st 2007, the FSB is concerned that the HMRC may not have enough resources to cope.
Indeed, the FSB is urging HMRC to ensure that all returns are logged, with receipts to confirm submission.
"The self-assessment form is just one of the many important tasks involved in running a business and there can be many reasons . why the self-employed . need right up to January 31st to complete it," said Simon Sweetman, tax spokesman for the FSB.
"But there is no excuse for HMRC not to be fully prepared," he added.
The FSB is a UK-based organisation with over 200,000 members, representing the interests of Britain's small business community.
