Around half of Britain's working population would prefer more flexible working hours, a study has revealed.
According to a study by the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), 48 per cent of women and over 50 per cent of men believe that flexible working hours would allow them to utilise their skills more effectively.
Indeed, many employees are working in positions that do not make full use of their skills, in order to regain a degree of flexibility.
"Work just isn't working for many people any longer," said Jenny Watson, chairman of the EOC.
"Far too many people burn out, trade down or drop out altogether. Many people are working below their skill level in order have a life," she added.
The EOC was established in order to help eradicate discrimination on the basis of gender.
