Britain's business community is committed to the development of a diverse workforce, a study has revealed.
According to recently published research by Jobcentre Plus, nearly 60 per cent of employers have confirmed that they are actively looking to employ staff from a variety of mixed backgrounds.
Furthermore, out of the study of 2,000 respondents, 79 per cent recognise the value of implementing a policy that promotes diversity in the workplace.
"Creating diverse workforces is about more than just legislative compliance and corporate responsibility - it's about better business," said Lesley Strathie, chief executive of Job Centre Plus.
"Customers and employees want to shop and work in environments which reflect their local communities," she added.
In addition to seeking to employ people from differing ethnic or religious backgrounds, a majority of employers are also employing individuals with different life experiences, such as single-parents or those who have experienced long-term unemployment.
Jobcentre Plus is a government agency, established in order to support individuals looking to return to work.
