The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has urged those standing at the forthcoming local elections to remember small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during policy-making.
Publishing an 'election manifesto' to highlight how locally implemented policies can affect SMEs, the FSB is urging candidates to develop policies that do not undermine the small business sector.
The manifesto highlights a number of areas where policy can impact upon SMEs, including finance, regulation, planning and crime.
"Decisions taken by local authorities have a direct impact on everybody's lives, including the livelihoods of small business owners and their employees," said Roger Culcheth, local government chairman for the FSB.
"Our manifesto will ensure candidates from all parties get the message that thriving small businesses are vital to successful local communities," he added.
In related news, the FSB recently criticised the mayor of London's proposals to introduce a low-emission zone within the capital, because of its potential impact to businesses such as haulers.
