British Airways (BA) has relaxed its new baggage charges until September because of "uncertainty".
As a result of ambiguity over the new pricing regime, check-in staff have been advised to apply the new charge with discretion and to be "lenient".
Under the new rules, a passenger is allowed to check in one bag up to a weight limit of 23 kilograms; any additional luggage, even if their combined weight is below the maximum limit, will incur a charge.
Long-haul flights would incur a charge of £120, while domestic and European flights will incur charges of £30 and £60 respectively.
"BA recognises customers may be uncertain about the details of the new policy, so check-in staff will treat sympathetically requests from economy-class passengers to check in more than one item of luggage provided the total weight is within the overall 23 kg limit," said an airline representative.
