As part of the Scaling New Heights action plan, the Cabinet Office has opened a competition to find 20 entrepreneurs to become ambassadors for social enterprise.
These ambassadors will be responsible for raising the profile of social enterprise, and encourage others to the sector by offering advice and opinions on how to change communities through business.
The government hopes to use the program to encourage entrepreneurs to consider the possibilities of combining business with social and environmental change.
Minister for the Third Sector, Ed Miliband stated "Once people see social enterprise, they understand it and become enthusiasts. We want to create an ambitious programme, owned by the sector, which will spread the message of what social enterprise can achieve throughout the country. Through their own stories and networks the ambassadors will help the movement achieve even more."
Ambassadors will be chosen in time for Social Enterprise Day on November 15t 2007, and will be expected to use their own experiences to help raise awareness of social enterprise.
