How to use credit reports for bribery and other naughty reasons

If you suspect or know that someone is setting up a business and would prefer to keep this information undisclosed from their family or current boss there are opportunities. Why not search for their name in our company director’s search and see what comes up?

Just imagine that upon the refusal of an extension on your bank loan that you reveal to your bank manager that you are aware that they have just set up a finance and investments company and that perhaps they would like to review your situation!

Obviously this is a joke and my suggestion does not represent the views of Duport Associates LTD even if it could bring you untold riches and happiness!

I am aware that I have just warned off many budding entrepreneurs from forming a Limited Company. With the threat of having to hand in my P45 I do have the solution for all prospective and worried LTD company directors, company shareholders and company secretaries; our reserve a company name service.

If you want to keep your business private we can register the company  and act as your directors and shareholders until you are ready to start trading for only £65.

Here are some other alternative reasons for using reports:

  • Checking out your husband’s business

The divorce lawyers may be very interested to see the company’s huge turnover this year.

  • Spying on your boss

Get yourself noticed by hand delivering a birthday card to his home (yes dates of birth and addresses available).

  • Watching your employees

Are they setting up a rival business whilst working for you?

  • Keeping up with Jones’

How well is Mrs Jones business doing at number 45?

Does anyone have any other amusing uses?

How to use credit reports in recruitment

how to use credit reports in recruitement

It is expected that when preparing for a job interview that you will actually try to find out something about the company you hope to work for. Generally that research is a simple trawl through the company website and some acknowledgement that you have made the effort to do that. What do you do when the company doesn’t have a website? How can you impress the interviewer and show them that you have gone the extra mile? Most people are not aware of how much information you can obtain for a few quid in the purchase of a credit report.

I can just imagine the scenario now:

Interviewer: “Can you tell me what you know about the company”?

Candidate: “I know that you started this company in 2001 with a joint shareholding and directorship with who I am assuming to be your wife, as you shared the same surname and address. I found that in 2008 your wife resigned as a director and your company secretary was appointed as joint director. Your secretary changed her name to your surname so I would like to congratulate you on your recent nuptials. As she is 20 years younger than you at only 24 she will hopefully provide a younger approach to the business. I know that you live at 24 Sycamore drive, an exclusive address, so you must be very successful”!

Interviewer: “Do you have any questions about the job”?

Candidate: “Your Company has shown steady growth every year but last year profits were down 10%. I also noted that a couple of CCJ’s were filed against you recently and I wanted to be sure that if I took this job my position would be safe”?

This is a joke of course but it is surprising what you can learn from company and director reports.

How to use credit reports

by: Rebecca

March 11th, 2010

There are many reasons why we should all use credit reports for our business and personal lives.  Financial service industries are all very well acquainted to this valuable information and base lending decisions on the results of the reports.

I think it’s surprising that these services, available to us all, are not common knowledge; why don’t we talk about these things more to our friends? I know it’s not the most stimulating of conversations to have in the pub on a Friday night but a few quid could save you hundreds of pounds and hours of time.

Until I started working for Duport I had no idea how useful credit reports could be. Now I honestly use them at least one a month for personal use and have friends contacting me every week for information on a company or a director. Once I discovered how useful they were I told people about them. It also helps that I can get them free of charge; call it a perk of the job (sorry dad!).

Only yesterday a friend contacts me because they needed information for one of their friends who had been duped by a building company. They were urgently trying to reach someone who had not fulfilled their obligations. It transpired that this company had been using a false identity and that there was no way of tracing them. I remarked how sad it was as this so easily could have been prevented by checking them out first. They won’t be making the same mistake again.

What shocks me even more is the amount of easily preventable fraud large businesses experience. As we deal with thousands of companies we often receive payment reminder letters from well known mobile companies, electrical suppliers, car hire companies etc for DORMANT COMPANIES??? I always ask these well known brands why they didn’t bother to check who the owners of the business were or why they didn’t know the status of the company before granting thousands of pounds of credit!

I understand why we need to be vigilant and shred every document, conceal our card numbers and so on but what’s the point when someone can purchase a PC with a fake, Microsoft word company letter head?

That’s why we offer free credit reports to all our company formations customers. We want you to see how useful they are. In spite of this you would be surprised how few of our customers actually take a look. Of course we are doing this in the hope that we will get more interest and ultimately more sales, but genuinely whether you use our service or not we hope that we can save a lot of pain at a later date.

How many of you actually check out your suppliers or customers? Are you aware that you can do this?
