up to £2 000 (50% - 75%) for
businesses with up to 50 employees, based in Newport.
A grant aimed at encouraging small and medium sized businesses to use IT as a means of developing their business e.g. development of a website, IT training of staff.
The grant is eligible towards the cost of training and consultancy advice in relation to Information and Communication Technology:
• NVQ training in ICT for employees over 25 years of age (75% of cost up to a maximum of £500);
• Consultancy advice on the design of a website and payment of the running costs for one year (50% of costs to a maximum of £500);
• Training on the design, updating, and utilisation of a website (75% costs to a maximum of £500);
• Training on new communication technology (75% of costs to a maximum of £500);
• Training in computer controlled applications in manufacturing processes (75% of costs to a maximum of £500).

industrial & commercial improvement grant
40% of costs up to a maximum of £20,000.
Grants of up to £20,000 are available for the adaptation, improvement or extension of commercial and industrial premises. It can also apply to the improvement of the environment, for example, the construction of fencing and walls, planting of trees and shrubs, clearance and levelling of land, cleaning, painting, repair or demolition of buildings, construction of parking spaces, access roads, turning roads and loading bays. The award of grants is entirely discretionary and the investment should safeguard or create jobs in the area.
Grants can be up to 40% of the cost of the project (net of any other grants). The maximum grant is £20,000 in the South Pillgwenlly/Old Town Dock Area and £10,000 in Cardiff Road, Corporation Road, Newport/Market Arcades, Lower Commercial Street/Charles Street areas.

30% of expenditure up to £5,000.
Grant for capital expenditure projects of less than £60,000 Businesses, with 50 or less employees, based in Newport County Borough. Businesses must be involved in the manufacturing sector or a service sector linked directly to the manufacturing process.
This grant is intended to support capital expenditure, primarily plant and equipment (new or second-hand) but could also support the adaptation of premises. The award of a grant is entirely discretionary. Retail outlets will not be considered for a grant.

This grant helps businesses with the cost of introducing security measures. The grant will be offered towards the cost of fencing, strengthening doors and windows, installing alarm systems, and introducing CCTV. Eligible applicants will be businesses employing 25 people or less, based in Newport County Borough, and in the manufacturing sector, or a service sector linked directly to the manufacturing process.

new technology training scheme
Businesses in the Newport Council area, employing 10 people or less can apply for up to 50% of costs to a maximum of £500.
This grant is geared towards helping small companies introduce new technology and train staff to use new equipment. A grant of up to 50% is available up to a maximum of £500 per company which will cover the cost of a training course plus any examination fees.
The grant is open to businesses in the manufacturing sector, or a service sector linked directly to the manufacturing process. Businesses must be located, or planning to locate in Newport County Borough.
