The purpose of the Development Grant is to help small business start-ups and expansions. Grants of up to £5,000 per business can be considered towards the cost of non-mobile capital equipment. It is aimed at manufacturing businesses and services to manufacturing although other services, which have the capacity to add value to the local economy, may be considered. It is not available to the retail sector and services operating within a purely local market. To qualify, a project must be viable and either create or safeguard jobs. • A business which employs no more than 25 employees;
• A business which has developed a marketing strategy via Business Connect;
• The applicant in making a bid for grant aid must comply with the European Commission rules as to state aids;

• Direct Advertising fees e.g. newspaper advertising space, TV / Radio airtime;
• Items not directly related to the promotion of the business;
